Hospitality Furniture

The holidays are coming up fast. I am seeing lots of hospitality furniture that reminds me of Christmas and the winter holidays, in rich wooden finishes and jewel-toned velvet upholstery.

On the other hand, I have also come across a few pieces that remind me of an altogether different holiday: Halloween! No, there are no jack-o-lantern motifs to be had, but check out these skeletal lounge and dining chairs from Arper (to the left).

Scary? Maybe when you consider that your keys or other personal effects could literally slip through the cracks on this seating. But the chairs aren’t that bad. In fact, they are made from solid steel, so they are not half as fragile as they appear. In fact, they are hearty enough to withstand regular outdoor use if you choose a powder-coated color.

The Arper Leaf series is available in the low lounger, pictured here, or in bistro dining chairs. Maybe it’s the skeletal resemblance that brings the works of Tim Burton and Helena Bonham Carter to mind, but I just keep imagining these chairs in a dark and foggy house overlooking the moors. For that reason, they’d make for wonderfully evocative hotel seating in the UK. I’m sure they’d be good UK bar furniture, as well. The chairs are just strange enough to make me want to test one out, and I’m sure that will hold true for other patrons, too.
