Hotel Interior Design: Think of Guests and Your Budget

851165_patio.jpgThe hospitality industry is very competitive, and for good reason; more travelers are seeking comfort and affordability now than ever before. But many are turned off by the cookie cutter style of hotel chains, so they look for hotels that remind them of home – original, relaxed, and above all, comfortable.

The use of furniture in hotels greatly affects their inner ambiance. Before you choose your furniture, take into consideration the colors, textures, and shapes you want to use. If you have a smaller inn or bed and breakfast, try doing a different color scheme in each room. I once stayed in a charming bed and breakfast in Louisiana that had a different fairy tale motif in each bedroom. All of the rooms were furnished in antiques, and each had a unique, hand-painted mural on the bedroom wall. Ironwork bistro dining chairs on the patios added to the whimsy of the place. It’s that kind of style and charm that guests love to see in a cozy inn.

Hotels are made up of bedrooms, bathrooms, dining areas, bars, lobbies, and other interior structures. When decorating yours, do each area separately. Maybe the bedrooms will have clean lines, light wood, and shades of beige and white, while the bar has dark wood and rich, jewel-toned upholstery. You can also opt to have the same shapes and styles of furniture throughout your hotel, and just change the color scheme for each area. The goal here is to be continuous without being boring.

While happy guests are vital to a business, you also have to decorate with your staff and your budget in mind. For the high traffic areas, choose commercial grade furniture with surfaces that are easy to clean and maintain. This saves time and money.
