Deck Your Halls and Furniture for the Holidays

914815_christmas_light.jpgThose in the business of hospitality need to be, well, hospitable. If you run an inn or restaurant, you want your guests to feel like they’re getting the care and consideration they would expect at home, only better. This means excellent customer service, but it doesn’t stop there. Making guests feel at home means great holiday decorations, too. Luckily, this doesn’t require a huge amount of energy on your part. If you’re an owner or designer, you can create a festive atmosphere very easily, at little cost.

First, decide how much floor space you want to devote to decorations. If you’ve got a room of quaint proportions, use tall, thin pine trees to maximize open space. Wall decorations are also a good way to avoid cluttering up your floor. Wrap paintings like gifts. Tie red and green ribbons around wall sconces. Use colorful garland and silk poinsettias to twirl around curtain rods. Beautify contract hotel furniture by wrapping bows around the chairs and setting the tables with twinkling glass candle holders reminiscent of icicles. And don’t forget the mistletoe!

Are you decorating for a trendier establishment? You don’t have to have blinking lights and animated reindeer lawn ornaments to get into the spirit of the season. String colorful tree ornaments from varying lengths of clear thread and tie them to hooks in the ceiling. This can look very sophisticated if you stick with silver and gold ornaments, or it can look dark and cool with a black, crimson, and violet motif.

If you’ve got a staircase, all the better. A well dressed staircase makes a perfect centerpiece for your holiday decorating genius. Twine a garland of evergreen needles through the rails. Hang small ornaments or snow flakes from the garland. A big red bow at the end will complete the picture. Get creative with the ornaments, and you’ll have a classic look that still manages to be uniquely yours.
